Following Kealan Lennon was the CEO and founder of ThankFrank, Seán Ahern. ThankFrank was started up in 2012. It is a browser extension and app that allows you to put a ‘thanks’ button on any web page.
ThankFrank shows you how many people see and benefit from your web page. Each time someone clicks ‘thanks,’ you gain an award or credit. However, this idea is still in the process of validation and is not up and running just yet.
After explaining his innovative business idea, Seán went on to give us students and business people in the audience 3 tips, 3 disadvantages and 3 advantages about entrepreneurship.
Tips for entrepreneurs:
1. “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” (Einstein)
2. “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” (Henry Ford)
3. “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” (Henry Ford)
Disadvantages of entrepreneurship:
1. “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t. So that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.”
2. Constantly spending your time thinking of your business and your business decisions.
3. “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but is rising every time we fall.” (Confucius)
Advantages of entrepreneurship:
1. “If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not people or objects.” (Einstein)
2. “It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction.” (Warren Buffet)
3. Believe in yourself. “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” (Henry Ford)
I found Seán Ahern’s idea of the ‘thank’ button very thought-provoking and captivating. I appreciated his talk and the advice he gave us from his experience of being an entrepreneur.
